Picking a real estate agent is a big deal. After all, it’s probably the biggest purchase or sale you will ever make! Here are four qualities in a good realtor.
- They are hyper-local to the area — They need to know the area very well. This also means their network is local. Realtors talk to each other, about upcoming listings and what their buyers are looking for. Your house will usually sell quickly (or you will find your home more quickly!) if your agent is very familiar with the area. Look to see which realtors are selling the homes in your area.
- They don’t just tell you what you want to hear –It’s frustrating for a buyer to go to a showing and have an agent put a positive spin on everything you see wrong with the house. It’s important to find an agent who can truly put themselves in your shoes when making such a big decision. They need to be able to give you exact stats about home prices in your area, as well as info about the market in general.
- They are full-time — Make sure they are closing at least one transaction a month. Working fewer than 20 hours a week in real estate sales delivers a median gross income of $8,550 a year. In comparison, working 60 hours or more a week produces a median gross income of $93,400. The more an agent works, the more transactions they close and the more experience they get.
- They have attention to detail — Paying close attention to the details is imperative for your real estate career. A complete real estate agent is attentive to the unique needs of their individual clients. A good realtor is organized and will communicate well with you. They will follow up with your quickly and pay attention to your needs.
