At Zercher Realty Partners, we want you to make the best real estate decision for you and your family. Here are 10 signs it’s time to sell your house:

  1. You’ve outgrown your house. You may have a growing family and need more bedrooms. Either adding on to the house isn’t an option, or it won’t add value to your home.
  2. You are moving in with significant other. It may be time for a change with a double vanity or an extra bedroom for your new roommate’s belongings.
  3. You are tired of the yard work. Maybe you are retiring or traveling a lot and don’t want to keep up with the house work.
  4. You notice a spike in crime. Especially if you have children, this may be the time to get out of there.
  5. You sit in traffic going to work. Maybe you need a shorter commute.
  6. You need the cash. Your house has appreciated since you moved in, and you could use the cash now.
  7. Your area’s schools are not great. Maybe you have toddler-aged kids and want to move to an area where the schools are rated higher.
  8. The remodeling on your home will not offer a return on your investment. Most of the time it is worth it to renovate parts of a home, but sometimes the numbers don’t make sense. If you want that updated kitchen, the best bet may be to find a home that already has one.
  9. Your house now needs approval from the Historic Society in your area. If you like being able to make big changes to your house without a board’s approval, you might want to move now.
  10. You are feeling like an empty nester. Maybe your kids have left the home and you have extra bedrooms and playrooms collecting dust.

  1. Maybe my parents should sell their home. I was reading down the list, and my parents have at least experienced four of these signs. I would add to the list and add that you keep thinking about selling your home.
